The Toronto Blue Jays have already shown they plan on being aggressive in free agency with their pursuit of Juan Soto.
However, that is not the only superstar they are going after.
The Blue Jays had an in-person meeting with Baltimore Orioles ace Corbin Burnes according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi .
Burnes is a four-time All-Star and National League Cy Young Award winner.
He had a 2.92 ERA in 2024, his best mark since his Cy Young Award campaign in 2021.
Spotrac projects Burnes to sign a six-year, $180 million deal in free agency.
Two of the Blue Jays star players, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., will be free agents following next season.
Signing Burnes gives the Blue Jays a chance to compete next year, while also adding an ace for years to come.
Kevin Gausman and Jose Berrios are nearing the end of their contracts.
Adding Burnes ensures they will have an elite arm if they both leave.
Burnes has been consistently healthy as well.
He has made over 30 starts each of the last three seasons.
Even the year before that he still made 28 starts.
He has 858 strikeouts and a 2.94 ERA since 2021.
He is consistently in the Cy Young Award conversation and could transform the Blue Jays starting rotation.
Burnes has set himself up for a big payday after becoming one of the best pitchers in baseball.
The 30-year-old was traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Orioles right before his contract year.
Now it is time for him to cash in.
